 Laure Mary creates compositions of phantasmatic realism, staging the meanders of the psyche to paint the portrait of the absence.

 With her surrealist paintings, the artist invites us into a poetic world where time hangs suspended, imbued with an unspoken tension. In today’s image-saturated society, where uncertainty reigns, she gathers fragments of her everyday life, refracting reality through a Kafkaesque lens. Her compositions challenge the limits of our perception, creating an atmosphere both unsettling and strangely familiar.

 Fascinated by the chimerical representation of the imperceptible, Mary is particularly interested in those fleeting moments of solitude when we are truly alone with ourselves. She believes these moments offer a glimpse into the most authentic, unvarnished reality, a raw and intimate encounter with our own being. Yet, these moments are also shrouded in mystery, for only the individual immersed in that solitude truly grasps the depths of their experience.

 With provocative simplicity, the artist weaves ambiguity and symbolism into familiar domestic settings. Recurring iconographic objects become charged with allegorical meaning, offering a glimpse into the complex and often contradictory nature of human emotion: The empty chair or armchair, a silent proposition; the retro telephone, a whisper of conversations past; a cup overflowing like a geyser of longing; the female form, a spectral presence, embodying the exploitation of woman as an object of desire.
